Clem

8th March 1996 – 15th June 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Clem.

He was a very important member of our family and will be sadly missed by everyone.

We rescued him when he was 8 months old. He had begun his training as a hawking dog and was always willing and biddable.

He had been put off retrieving when we got him and David gently taught him that retrieving was not naughty, but great fun and he was chasing after retrieves a week before he died.

In his later years he loved to potter along behind the pack and wait for them to line up on point. He then found a new lease of life and would charge of to flush the bird before the others realised what he was doing!

His hearing began to go a couple of years ago but he stayed fit right up until a few months ago, when he began to get a bit wobbly on his back legs. However, he always went out on his daily walk with pleasure and never refused a meal in his life!

He was a very striking dog and would have done well in the show ring but we were not given his pedigree by the rescue home and he became a much loved family pet.

He loved everyone, especially children and it has been a hard job telling all my piano students that he will not be there to greet them when they come into the house.

He was the January Dog on this year’s GSP rescue calendar and that is how we will always remember him – out in the big outdoors, enjoying life.

Rosa had her puppies on Thursday 17th June. 5 bitches and 4 dogs. The puppies are all sold and most of them have gone to their new homes and are settling in very well. We only have two at home with us now, Lucy, who is leaving us next week, and Inge who is going to stay with us. We are getting lots of feedback from the new owners and I hope to start a new feature - 'Inge's Diary '  which will show how she develops and how she is getting on with her training. Watch this space!

Click here to browse photos of the puppies. There is also a Puppies Video.

The father of Rosa’s puppies is Darnells Dusky Knight , known as Flyn at home, where he lives with his mother Cally (Baywillow Calantha) and his sister Asha (Dusky Maiden of Ross).

If you have never owned a GSP before, please refer to the articles on the breed and on puppy rearing on our FAQ pages.

Our ringcraft club held it’s annual Companion dog show on Sunday July 12th 2009. This year we had Obedience as well as Pedigree and Novelty classes.
Refreshments were on offer all day, provided by 'the Bread Basket' of Stonehouse and the smell of bacon butties was irresistable.Although we had wet weather accommodation, we did not need it as the sun shone all through the show!
We had a very successful day and everyone enjoyed themselves. We are hoping to hold another show next July.
We are very greatful to our judges - Rachel Herbert(Dallandor) who judged Pedigree and Novelty Classes and Liz Davis and Anne Weatherhead who judged the Obedience.
We raised £510.00 for our charity - Hearing dogs for Deaf People.

Clem has been chosen as the January Calendar Dog for the German Shorthaired Pointer Club Rescue Calendar 2010.
Everyone was invited to send in pictures of their dogs and 800 entries were received.
Clem's picture was one of 12 chosen by the judges.
The picture chosen is on clem's page and is the one of him wading through the snow last year.
The calendar is £5 and is available from G.S.P Club Rescue organiser Sue Pitman
01243 545990
At only £5 they make excellent Christmas presents and all the money goes to the rescue funds
